Obstetrics

The obstetrics department takes care of expecting mother and her baby until after the delivery. Pregnant women are provided comprehensive ante-natal care and counselling services by consultants and specialists. They receive detailed briefings about various stages of pregnancy, possible complications and post- delivery issues. Expecting mothers attend ante-natal clinics for regular monitoring, guidance, and, if required, treatment for any medical condition that they may be suffering from like anaemia, diabetes, hypertension, kidney problems, hepatitis, and lung diseases including asthma & tuberculosis, thyroid dysfunction, etc. Throughout the delivery phase, both mother and baby are kept under close observation of expert doctors and midwives who are in turn under direct supervision of Consultants. In the event of a complicated delivery, immediate intervention and remedial measures are taken. Following birth of her baby, mother is encouraged and fully briefed about the advantages of breast feeding, maintenance of hygiene and all aspects of baby care. Importance of vaccination and its standard scheduling is also shared with the mother. Post-natal physiotherapy is explained and carried out by experienced physiotherapists. New-born babies are taken care of by the paediatric department. A dedicated neonatal unit caters to the needs of the new-born babies.

Due to heavy demand on ZPMH’s obstetrics services, the department restricts the number of registeration for delivery at the hospital. This is to ensure that services rendered are always up to standard and that there is no mismanagement due to over flow of patients. It is strongly advised to book a delivery case by the 20th week of pregnancy as this helps in better management of the delivery and also in attending to any such condition which might later lead to complications during birth.

Two categories of delivery services are available to the patients:-

RMO Delivery  (Blue card)

Those who opt for RMO delivery are issued a Blue Card which has to be produced at the time of each visit to the hospital. Throughout the period of pregnancy care is provided through a specialist consultant. Upon admission for delivery the RMO on duty manages the delivery. In case of any problem the Consultant takes charge. Booking charges for RMO Delivery are non- refundable but adjustable against final delivery charges. Admission is available in the General ward as well as Private room category. Delivery charges vary for both categories. In case of surgical intervention charges increase. For more information on service charges, please contact the reception/ information counters.

Note: If any problem is detected in the condition of the mother or the baby, emergency intervention/ measures may be necessary and this may increase the expected cost of the delivery services.

Consultant Delivery (Red card)

Those who opt for Consultant Delivery are issued a Red Card which has to be produced at the time of each visit to the hospital. As in RMO Delivery, throughout the period of pregnancy, care is provided through a consultant or specialist. Upon admission for delivery, preliminary check is carried out by the RMO on duty while actual delivery is managed by the specialist or consultant. Booking charges are non- refundable but adjustable against final delivery charges. In this category of booking admission in Private room is mandatory. In case of surgical intervention charges increase. For more information on service charges, please contact the reception/information counters.

Note: If any problem is detected in the condition of the mother or the baby, emergency intervention/ measures may be necessary and this may increase the expected cost of the delivery services.
